Is a house cleaning service worth it?

For most busy households, yes, if the hours it gives back are worth more to you than what it costs. A three-bedroom house cleaned every two weeks runs $115 to $150 per visit. Each visit is two to three hours of work for two people, so four to six hours that don’t come out of your weekend.

How much does a cleaning service cost per month?

It depends on how often you book. For a three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath house in average condition, these are the per-visit ranges and the number of visits in a typical month:

FrequencyPer visitVisits per month
Weekly$115 to $150About 4
Every two weeks$115 to $150About 2
Monthly$135 to $1751

Most recurring plans start with a deep clean, which for the same house runs $240 to $310. After that, the regular visits keep it there. A bigger or busier home costs more, a smaller one less, and the estimator gives you the range for yours.

How much time does it actually save?

Four to six hours of work per visit, for a mid-size home. A regular cleaning takes a pair of cleaning professionals two to three hours on site, and that’s with the right supplies and a routine they repeat in every room.

The time that comes back isn’t only the hours of cleaning. It’s the Saturday morning that stays free, the weeknight you don’t spend on the bathrooms, and the argument about whose turn it was. How long does a house cleaning take? breaks the hours down by type of cleaning.

When is a cleaning service worth it, and when isn’t it?

It’s usually worth it when the house gets messy faster than you can keep up, and usually not when the home is small, stays tidy and you don’t mind cleaning it. The honest answer depends on your household, not on the price alone.

It tends to be worth it when:

  • Two adults work full time, or one works from home and the house is in use all day.
  • There are kids at home, a dog that sheds, or both.
  • The weekends you have are the ones you’d rather spend somewhere else.
  • You host often, or you’re about to.

It may not be worth it, or not yet, when:

  • You live in a small apartment, alone or with one other person, and it rarely gets past a quick wipe-down.
  • You enjoy cleaning or find it relaxing. Plenty of people do.
  • The budget is tight this year. A single deep clean a couple of times a year can be a middle ground.

As one client put it in a Google review: “They do a fantastic job of thoroughly Cleaning our house every time. I would highly recommend their services for anyone who needs a little help around the house.” — Anthony F.

Is it lazy to hire a house cleaner?

No. Paying for a few hours of help around the house is the same decision as paying for daycare, a lawn service or an oil change: you’re trading money for time and doing the work you’re best placed to do.

Between work, kids, pets and everything else on the calendar, cleaning is one of the few jobs in the week that someone else can do as well as you can. It doesn’t make the house any less yours.

What should you get for the price?

Consistency, mostly. The value of a cleaning service comes from the house being reliably clean without you managing it, so look for the things that make that happen.

With us, that means:

  • The same two cleaning professionals every visit. They learn your home and get faster at it. The one exception is when you move your regular day and your usual pair isn’t free.
  • Vetted, insured cleaning professionals.
  • Flexibility. You can skip, reschedule or cancel a cleaning with no fee as long as you let us know at least 48 hours ahead.
  • A satisfaction guarantee. If something isn’t right, tell us and we’ll work with you to make it right.

“The cost is reasonable, & their work is fantastic!” — Jim F., Google review

How can you try it without overcommitting?

Start with one deep clean, or with visits every two weeks for a couple of months, and decide from there. You’ll know after three or four visits whether the time back is worth the cost.

If the house stays in good shape between visits, move to monthly. If it’s back to where it started in a week, go weekly. How often should you have your house cleaned? walks through how to choose, and the estimator shows the range for your home in about a minute.
